August 29, 2025: IBA-SMCS organized a dynamic faculty development workshop on “Redesigning the Curriculum with AI” led by Umair Azfar Khan, Lecturer at the University of Westminster, London.
His research spans Game Development, Software Engineering, and Computer Science Pedagogy. He previously held positions at the University of Glasgow and IBA-SMCS. At Westminster, he is spearheading an initiative to embed Generative AI into the computer science curriculum, advocating for the use of AI to enhance learning rather than replace it.
The three-hour session brought together faculty members from the Departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance and Social Sciences to explore innovative ways of integrating Generative AI (GenAI) into teaching, assessment, and curriculum design.
The workshop shifted the perspective of AI from being seen as a “shortcut” to being embraced as a collaborator in education. Through interactive discussion and insights, faculty members learned how AI can:
Participants engaged in practical exercises, including creating AI-assisted lecture plans, developing code for teaching tools, and experimenting with AI for visualization and assessment design.
The workshop provided faculty with a fresh perspective on teaching, encouraging them to rethink classroom practices, adopt innovative tools, and prepare themselves for digital education.
