IBA Karachi, SMCS hosted the first SMCS alumni dinner

March 15, 2023: Institute of Business Administration Karachi, School of Mathematics & Computer Science hosted the first SMCS alumni dinner. The evening commenced with a welcome address by Dean SMCS, Shakeel Khoja. Executive Director IBA, Dr S Akbar Zaidi, warmly welcomed the alumni back to their alma mater and said: “The IBA is known for imparting quality business education, and our future will be defined as the providers of exceptional education in CS and related fields.”

Guest of Honor and Alumni Representative on the BoG, IBA, Sohail Mohammed, lauded the alumni community. “The IBA is known for its alumni and the tremendous work they have been doing since graduating.” Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science, SMCS, Shahid Hussain, encouraged alumni community members to engage with the school. He urged the attendees to share their feedback about the program’s curriculum and help mentor the current SMCS students.

Over 125 alumni and faculty members attended the dinner. Both recent and past graduates from #BS (CS), #MS(CS), #PhD(CS) and #MIS program who now holds director/CEO level positions in their respective companies attended the session. It was an evening filled with laughter, joy, and, most importantly, the opportunity for alumni to reconnect with old friends and make new connections with fellow alumni.

The school also took the opportunity to recognize and appreciate the contributions of the school's current and former staff members. This event aimed to create opportunities through an alumni mentorship program for alumni to give back to their alma mater. The SMCS plans to hold similar events to recognize and celebrate members of its growing community.
