IBA Organizes an Industry-Led session on “Essentials of Information Security” for MSCS Students

October 27, 2025: The School of Mathematics and Computer Science, IBA Karachi, organized an engaging guest speaker session on “Essentials of Information Security” for Computer Science Master’s students.

The speakers included Global CB CEO Mr. Noman Jehangir, Head of Governance, Risk, and Compliance Mr. Faizan Ahmed, and Manager Compliance/Operations Ms. Sandia Iftikhar.

The session provided a comprehensive overview of ISO standards and their significance in establishing global frameworks for data protection and risk management. Students were introduced to ISO 27001, the international benchmark for implementing an Information Security Management System (ISMS), and explored the evolution of AIMS and ISO 42001, emerging as vital frameworks for responsible AI management and governance.

The discussion emphasized the ethical and operational aspects of AI security, focusing on fairness, transparency, and accountability in AI-driven systems. Students also gained valuable insights into safe AI usage, strategies to prevent data exposure, and career pathways within Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), a rapidly expanding field in the tech industry.

Additionally, the speakers highlighted social engineering as a critical cybersecurity threat, explaining how human behavior can be exploited to breach secure systems. The session concluded with a forward-looking dialogue on the intersection of AI, ethics, and employment, exploring how automation can create new career opportunities while demanding greater digital responsibility.
