The Electronics/Hardware Lab provides electronic circuits for practices in instrumentation for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. We also aid projects as well as help with troubleshooting circuit issues on projects.
The Electronics/Hardware Lab supports a wide variety of course work with the hardware and software available to current students, faculty and staff.
Following is a partial list of the services we provide to the faculty, and students of the Department of Computer Science, School of Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCS).
The Electronics/Hardware Lab hosts practical sessions for various courses, including Digital Logic Design, IoT, Computer Architecture & Assembly Language. It is fully furnished with all the essential equipment and components required to facilitate the laboratory sessions for these courses.
Miss Asma Touqir, as the Electronics/Hardware Lab Incharge, played a crucial role in training students at the IBA CICT Internet of Things (IoT) summer camp in July 2023. The combination of hands-on experience with hardware components like Arduino Uno, ESP 32, Node MCU ESP 8266, and Raspberry Pi, as well as exposure to software-based projects, provides students with a well-rounded understanding of IoT technology.
The inclusion of WOKWI Arduino Simulator and Blynk in the training is also noteworthy. Online simulators like WOKWI provide a cost-effective and accessible way for students to simulate and test their projects without the need for physical hardware. This exposure to both real-world hardware and virtual simulations enhances the students' learning experience and prepares them for practical applications in the field of IoT.
Overall, such comprehensive training programs contribute significantly to the skill development and knowledge acquisition of students in the rapidly evolving field of Internet of Things. It's a testament to the dedication and expertise of educators like Miss Asma Touqir in fostering a hands-on and innovative learning environment.
Dr. Faisal Iradat and Miss Asma Touqir conducted a workshop on "IoT in the Cyber World" as part of the ReCyP:HER International Conference (Rethinking Cybersecurity in Pakistan) at the IBA Karachi-City Campus on January 10–11, 2024. The workshop focused on providing participants with insights into cyber attacks and threats in IoT. It also explored how IoT can offer solutions to such attacks through the implementation of various techniques, including Fuzzing. This initiative aimed to enhance awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary for addressing cybersecurity challenges in the dynamic IoT landscape. The collaboration between Dr. Faisal Iradat and Miss Asma Touqir likely contributed to a comprehensive and enlightening learning experience for the workshop participants, furthering the goal of building a proficient and well-informed community in the field.
Various electronics-based final year projects are undertaken, and the Electronics lab offers essential support and training to guide final year students in their endeavors. This support includes training in soldering techniques and educating students on the utilization of different electronics components for their final year projects (FYPs). The goal is to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively implement their FYPs and successfully navigate the hardware aspects of their projects.
Students in the CS programs (BS, MS, PhD) will be considered for part time employment in the Electronics/Hardware lab. These part time workers will be trained for various tasks such as developing lab manuals, teaching assistants, verifying test circuits etc. If you have interests in learning hands-on electronics and are capable of operating independently and responsibly, the educational experience can be tremendous. A knowledge and use of common hand tools is required.
